Weekend Schedule

Watch our Audition

Video Clip

To all perspective members of the 2007 Teal Sound Color Guard:

The Color Guard audition camp will include evaluation in dance and equipment skills.  The primary consideration during the auditions will be an individual’s ability to learn quickly and perform confidently.

What do I wear?

Wear clothing that allows you to move easily throughout the weekend.  Remember, this is an audition and you’ll want to present yourself in the best possible manner. Don’t cover yourself with excessive clothing or clothing that doesn’t allow you to move comfortably.

Should I bring my own equipment?

Please bring your own 6’ flag pole with silk.  If you have any problems with providing your own flag pole with silk, please contact the caption head.  Members wishing to audition for a weapon spot should bring their own rifle or sabre as weapons will not be provided.

Do I have to spin rifle or sabre?

There is no requirement to spin rifle or sabre. We decide the number of people that will spin weapons in the show based on the talent at the audition. We’re always on the lookout for talent in all areas of color guard.

 What is the audition like?

10:00 – 1:00pm

We begin the audition with some basic warm-up and technique exercises. This will get you warmed up and acquaint you with the particular style we are exploring. It will be followed by a movement combination.  You will perform the combinations in large and small groups.

2:30 – 6:00pm

After lunch, you will then audition with some basic flag basics.  It will be followed by a short flag phrase.  You will perform the flag phrase in large and small groups.

8:30 – 11:00pm

After dinner and a full corps meeting to discuss the “RIDE”, you will then meet with the staff for a short interview.  At that point any concerns, comment, and schedule conflicts may be addressed.

On the second day after marching sectional, we will audition individuals that are interested in rifle and/or sabre.  This is not required but does give us another chance to see you showcase additional skills. Even if you have little or no experience on weapon, this is a great introduction to rifle or sabre, and you might be surprised at your own potential.  More in-depth weapon work will be done at the following camp to finalize the weapon lines. Students should realize that the guard is chosen based on knowledge of dance and flag skills FIRST.  No one will be a weapon without mastering flag and body.

When do I find out the results of my audition?

After the December 15-17 camp, you will receive a letter informing you of your audition results. If you are accepted we will notify you after the camp concludes.  You may be given a “call back”. The “call back” means that we would like to see you again. The “call back” date is the following camp.   You may be placed on a waiting list. If you are placed on the waiting list you will receive a number. This number indicates where you are on the waiting list with #1 being the highest. If someone is unable to accept their position for the summer, we move performers from the waiting list into available spots.

The most important thing is not to be afraid.  Believe in yourself.
